· Providing a making work pay tax cut of up to $1,000 for 200,000 workers and their families. The plan will make a down payment on the President’s Making Work Pay tax cut for 95% of workers and their families, designed to pay out immediately into workers’ paychecks. · Making 5,000 families eligible for a new American Opportunity Tax Credit to make college affordable. By creating a new $2,500 partially refundable tax credit for four years of college, this plan will give 3.8 million families nationwide – and 5,000 families in Wyoming – new assistance to put college within their reach. · Offering an additional $100 per month in unemployment insurance benefits to 20,000 workers in Wyoming who have lost their jobs in this recession, and providing extended unemployment benefits to an additional 4,000 laid-off workers. [Source: National Employment Law Project]
· Providing funding sufficient to modernize at least 23 schools in Wyoming so our children have the labs, classrooms and libraries they need to compete in the 21st century economy. [Source: White House Estimate]
In addition to this immediate assistance for Wyoming, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan will help transform our economy by:
· Doubling renewable energy generating capacity over three years, creating enough renewable energy to power 6 million American homes.
· Computerizing every American’s health record in five years, reducing medical errors and saving billions of dollars in health care costs.
· Launching the most ambitious school modernization program on record, sufficient to upgrade 10,000 schools.
· Enacting the largest investment increase in our nation’s roads, bridges and mass transit systems since the creation of the national highway system in the 1950s.

GOVERNOR PATRICK HIGHLIGHTS LAUNCH OF STATEWIDE TV NETWORK
“MassTV” Will Make State Video Available for Community Television
BOSTON – Wednesday, January 14, 2009 – Governor Deval Patrick today joined legislators and representatives from Massachusetts community access television stations to celebrate the launch of an independent online video network – MassTV – that will allow hundreds of community access television stations to share and access state video content.
“This is another way for communities, and, most importantly, citizens to get involved in their state government,” said Governor Patrick. “We will use this free network to help spread information about what we are doing on Beacon Hill and how it affects residents from around Massachusetts.”
The Governor’s Office and MassAccess – the Massachusetts Chapter of the Alliance for Community Media – worked together to develop the network, which allows local television access centers to broadcast videos produced by Massachusetts state agencies, non-profit organizations, and federal and state legislators through an innovative video sharing site.
“This has been an amazing collaboration,” said Bill Nay, Committee Chair of MassAccess and Director of Shrewsbury Local Media. “Governor Patrick and his staff are truly committed to fostering civic engagement efforts in the Commonwealth, and community television is here to help.”
Along with providing broadcast-ready videos to local access centers, “MassTV” offers a streaming size video for citizens on their Web site (www.mymasstv.org) free of charge. More than 100,000 subscribers of local access television stations are already receiving programming from the MassAccess test Web site. There are an estimated two million subscribers to local cable access channels across the state.
“MassTV” is a civic network connecting local media, municipalities and Massachusetts citizens to provide citizens a better window into the progress and activities of state government.

Rep. Ehrlich to Donate Pay Raise
We need more politicians like Lori Ehrlich!
From the Marblehead Reporter:
From the Marblehead Reporter:
Thu Jan 08, 2009, 02:32 PM EST
Marblehead - State Rep. Lori A. Ehrlich, D-Marblehead, will donate the entirety of her 5.5 percent raise for the 2009-2010 legislative session to organizations in her district that have been affected by state budget cuts, her office announced Thursday.
Under a state law approved by voters in 1998, lawmakers’ pay rises or falls every two years in sync with the state’s median household income. This year’s increase would lift lawmakers’ base pay from $58,237 to $61,440, an increase of just over $3,200 a year.
The law requires the governor to determine the change to the household income at the start of each two-year legislative session, which for the 2009-2010 session was Wednesday, leading to the announcement from Gov. Deval Patrick’s office.
Ehrlich said she made the decision to donate her raise due to the current state of the economy.
“With about 6 percent of Massachusetts residents unemployed, and businesses, organizations and families struggling, every little bit helps,” said Ehrlich. “Instead of turning down the raise and sending it back to the state’s general fund, I would prefer to put that money back to work in my district by supporting the organizations that feed, educate and care for those who are struggling during this time of financial difficulty.”
Ehrlich, who represents Marblehead, Swampscott and a part of Lynn, is donating to groups that have a direct impact on her district. The $3,200 will be split among the Marblehead Food Pantry, Swampscott Food Pantry, My Brother’s Table, Friends of Lynn and Nahant Beach, Aging in Place-Lynn, Marblehead Council on Aging, Swampscott Council on Aging, Friends of the Marblehead Public Schools and Swampscott Public Schools revolving fund.

Governor Patrick Asks Legislature for Expanded Budget AUTHORITY
Additional authority allows the Governor to distribute up to $1 billion in cuts more equitably across state government
BOSTON – Wednesday, January 7, 2009 – Facing a likely additional $1 billion budget gap this year, Governor Deval Patrick today filed legislation requesting expanded budget-cutting authority in order to avoid disproportionate cuts to programs and services residents rely on most during challenging economic times.
The expanded 9C power will give the Governor emergency budget authority over agencies outside of the Executive Branch – including the Legislature, the Judiciary, District Attorneys, Sheriffs, and other Constitutional Officers – and local aid.
Without 9C authority, the Governor’s budget cutting powers are limited to Executive Branch agencies. In October, with revenues sharply declining, the Governor issued $1.4 billion in cuts and spending controls. At that time, many Constitutional Officers and departments outside the Executive Branch voluntarily offered to reduce their budgets.

“A budget gap of the magnitude we face will require tough choices that impact individuals, families and businesses across the Commonwealth,” said Governor Patrick. “It’s necessary for us to have everything on the table when making these decisions.”

Bush Insider Planned to Tell All Has "Accident" and Dies Before Testifying

WASHINGTON, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Michael Connell, the Bush IT expert who has been directly implicated in the rigging of George Bush's 2000 and 2004 elections, was killed last night when his single engine plane crashed three miles short of the Akron airport. Velvet Revolution ("VR"), a non-profit that has been investigating Mr. Connell's activities for the past two years, can now reveal that a person close to Mr. Connell has recently been discussing with a VR investigator how he can tell all about his work for George Bush. Mr. Connell told a close associate that he was afraid that George Bush and Dick Cheney would "throw [him] under the bus."
A tipster close to the McCain campaign disclosed to VR in July that Mr. Connell's life was in jeopardy and that Karl Rove had threatened him and his wife, Heather. VR's attorney, Cliff Arnebeck, notified the United States Attorney General , Ohio law enforcement and the federal court about these threats and insisted that Mr. Connell be placed in protective custody. VR also told a close associate of Mr. Connell's not to fly his plane because of another tip that the plane could be sabotaged. Mr. Connell, a very experienced pilot, has had to abandon at least two flights in the past two months because of suspicious problems with his plane. On December 18, 2008, Mr. Connell flew to a small airport outside of Washington DC to meet some people. It was on his return flight the next day that he crashed.
On October 31, Mr. Connell appeared before a federal judge in Ohio after being subpoenaed in a federal lawsuit investigating the rigging of the 2004 election under the direction of Karl Rove. The judge ordered Mr. Connell to testify under oath at a deposition on November 3rd, the day before the presidential election. Velvet Revolution received confidential information that the White House was extremely concerned about Mr. Connell talking about his illegal work for the White House and two Bush/Cheney 04 attorneys were dispatched to represent him.
An associate of Mr. Connell's told VR that Mr. Connell was involved with the destruction of the White House emails and the setting up of the off-grid White House email system.
Mr. Connell handled all of John McCain's computer work in the recent presidential campaign. VR has received direct evidence that the McCain campaign kept abreast of the legal developments against Mr. Connell by reading the VR dedicated website, www.rovecybergate.com.
VR demands that the Ohio Attorney General and the United States Justice Department conduct a complete investigation into the activities of Mr. Connell and determine whether there was any foul play in his death. VR demands that federal law enforcement officials place the following people under protective custody pending this investigation. Heather Connell who
is the owner of GovTech Solutions, Randy Cole, the former President of GovTech Solutions, and Jeff Averbeck, the CEO of SmartTech in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Both GovTech and SmartTech have been implicated in the rigging of the 2000 and 2004 elections and the White House email scandal. Our prior request to have Mr. Connell protected went unheeded and now he is dead.

UNTOLD LONDON'S LGBT SECTION AND WRITING COMPETITION
The history website, Untold London: Discover the History of London's Diverse Communities, has a new LGBT history section, which is entitled Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans History Section, which should be of great interest.
They are also looking for freelance writers who would like to write for them. [See here.]
As they state:
As the LGBT history section of Untoldlondon expands, we urgently need more writers. So we've joined forces with Chroma Queer Arts Journal to sniff out some new talent. Sara Wajid, UntoldLondon editor, says, "I'm hoping to develop a stable of freelance contributors for the LGBT history pages. Slowly but surely, curators and archivists have begun bringing collections out of the closet and I'm looking for reporters and creative writers who can do these stories justice."
They are also holding a Gay writing competition, the details of which can be seen here.

GLBT Action Alert: God Hates Fags Group in Boston December 12
The Phelps clan will be protesting in front of the Boston Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre from 7:15 PM to 8:00 PM on December 12th.
Fred Phelps' clan is coming to Boston! The "God Hates Fags" Westboro Baptist Church is coming to picket the Laramie Project at the Boston Center for the Arts. Fred Phelps and his group travel all across the United States spreading their message of hate. When the group comes to Boston, however, they will be helping to drive equality across America.
Driving Equality is hosting a Phelps-A-Thon to counter Fred Phelps' hateful message. For every minute the "God Hates Fags" clan is protesting, we will be collecting donations for Driving Equality , a 85-day trek across America to all of the lower 48 states to advance LGBT equality. (Pledge Online)
The point of this Phelps-A-Thon is two fold. First, we are using Phelps' own hateful message to raise funds for a good cause, one that will help counter the lies that are being spread about LGBT people. Second, we will be displaying a sign in front of the "God Hates Fags" clan tallying how much money they have helped raise for LGBT equality. This will certainly upset the group and it is possible that they will leave early to stop our fundraising. On the "God Hates Fags" website, Phelps has this to say about the upcoming protest in Boston:
We can turn these hateful words into positive change. Help Drive Equality Across America.
Driving Equality is a trek across America to raise awareness of the various forms of discrimination faced by LGBT people in each state of the nation. Highlighting the differences in rights, laws, and amendments between the states will shed light on the current social standing of queer individuals today. Chris Mason hopes to create a dialogue about the disparities across the nation, and what can be done to end discrimination for all.
During the summer of 2009, Mason will be going on an 85-day, 15,000-mile road-trip, through all lower 48 states, to advance LGBT equality. Check out the About page to find out more about the project.
