In the nature a retail establishment might rebrand the same product under a different name to distance itself from it's former failures, it seems Massachusetts Family Institute has clawed it's way out from the political grave like Bela Lugosi (played by Kris Mineau) and is now calling itself "Coalition for Marriage". So what's new? For starters there seems to be little to no mention of who runs this group no matter where you look on the site. This suggests to me that Mineau's leadership role may have had it's last groundswell. Right on the front page we have a link to the Family Research Council (FRC), a group currently presided over by Tony Perkins, a man with links to racism.
In the April 26, 2005 issue of The Nation magazine journalist Max Blumenthal wrote that Tony Perkins has longstanding ties to racist organizations, including an alleged deal with David Duke to share his mailing list:
"Four years ago, Perkins addressed the Louisiana chapter of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC), America's premier white supremacist organization...in 1996 Perkins paid former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke $82,000 for his mailing list. At the time, Perkins was the campaign manager for a Republican candidate for the US Senate in Louisiana. The Federal Election Commission fined the campaign Perkins ran $3,000 for attempting to hide the money paid to Duke."
Mineau tries to play the shell game with his organization's name and shovel the same
Let's all remember that Massachusetts Family Institute was responsible for the failed attempt to change the state Constitution to deny marriage equality to same sex partners. The company they hired to conduct the signature gathering was called out by knowthyneighbor.org on fraud charges, and a criminal investigation ensued. To date the State Attorney General's office has no news on that investigation. Of course Mineau and others involved in hiring the group of outside of the state paid per signature gatherers deny knowing of the group's past involvements in similar cases, like in Oregon. The denials remind me of any number of times James Dobson has been called out on dishonesty, it seems he simply shrugs it off and hopes people forget about it.
Mr. Mineau, If I may speak plainly, your group's platform was the source of your lack of support in the past, if that has not changed then changing your group's name isn't going to much matter to those who are interested in this issue. While I have your attention, you might want to think out a "Plan B" since the younger generation are going to neither be controlled via mob mentality nor convinced of your unfounded fears.
