60 Minutes TV Show Discusses Being Born Gay

60 Minutes covered a story about research geared to understanding the causes of homosexuality. Click here for the video, from BornDifferent.org.

Most people that visit my site are content to read the articles and move on, but I do hope that after watching the video, readers would share what they thought of it. If not, I am still sure it will spark debate elsewhere.

I read the transcript.

I don't understand where the controversy lies.

To me it is abundantly clear that people are born gay.

I have to agree. For a very long time, it has been obvious to me that many things like this are something we are born with. Environmental factors can do a lot in term of behavior and acceptance and the like, but as a base, no, it's all in-born it seems.

While I did find the bit on twins fascinating, I personally found the report enforcing of stereotypes, and starkly inadequate educationally from paragraph one. In the article, Adam, who would love to be a girl and prefers things that are considered feminine, doesn't strike me as homosexual so much as transgender. Yet it seems to be the assumption of the writers that being homosexual and being transgender are the same thing. I know far too many cases, myself included, where this is not the case. Of all the people I have known or met, few fit the model described in the article. I found this aspect of the article extremely upsetting and disappointing.

That said, I did think it was well written and handled well. They did some research and got some good information in.

I, also, read the transcript. I look forward to having time to actually viewing the clip itself.
