Dems Plan Subtle Changes to Party Platform to Lure Catholic, Evangelical Votes at Convention

Well, that is the headline for this story from the thoroughly dishonest Lifesitenews.

As I was reading the article, I found nothing truly remarkable. That the Democratic Party would want to be more inclusive of people of faith is simply common sense. The new language in the National Democratic Party Platform will read like this:

"The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right. The Democratic Party also strongly supports access to affordable family planning services and comprehensive age-appropriate sex education which empower people to make informed choices and live healthy lives.

"We also recognize that such health care and education help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and thereby also reduce the need for abortions. The Democratic Party also strongly supports a woman's decision to have a child by ensuring access to and availability of programs for pre and post natal health care, parenting skills, income support, and caring adoption programs."

"Because we believe in the privacy and equality of women, we stand proudly for a woman's right to choose, consistent with Roe v. Wade, and regardless of her ability to pay. We stand firmly against Republican efforts to undermine that right. At the same time, we strongly support family planning and adoption incentives. Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare."

Fine by me. And nothing out of the ordinary.

But then comes this piece of propaganda that seems quite disconnected from the rest of the story.

Homosexual activists have also expressed displeasure with the Democrats' proposed ideological makeover, as the new platform would say simply that the party supports "all families," instead of explicitly mentioning "gay and lesbian families."
Oh, really. Got a source for that?

Whether it is true or not that some "Homosexual activists" have "expressed displeasure with the Democrats' proposed ideological makeover" is not the point.

The point is this audacious claim is unsupported by any appeal to polling data or even a quote from some ""Homosexual activist".

I may be wrong, since I am from the outside looking in, but I want know.

Where is the outrage? Where is this "expressed displeasure"?

Is it true? Do GLBT people see this statement from the latest draft as insulting?

We support the full inclusion of all families, including same-sex couples, in the life of our nation, and support equal responsibility, benefits, and protections. We will enact a comprehensive bipartisan employment non-discrimination act. We oppose the Defense of Marriage Act and all attempts to use this issue to divide us.

Am I missing something?

Nope, you're not missing anything. When Lifesite writes that "homosexual activists" have "expressed displeasure" over the platform the implication goes that ALL (so-called)"homosexual activists" have done so. This discounts the many LGBT rights advocates who have applauded the platform. In fact, the LGBT Task Force, a pretty prominent LGBT rights group, has explicitly applauded the "broad and historic inclusion of LGBT issues in proposed Democratic National Platform."

What a dishonest piece of asinine propaganda.

Thank you for that link, Fannie.

I think it is shame the Democrats couldn't take it on step further and specifically endorse same-sex marriage.

as far as I know, only the Communists (CPUSA) and the Greens have specifically done so.
