Blessed by God

Matt Barber, director of cultural affairs for Liberty Counsel, poses this question: "How long can a nation founded on the laws of nature and nature's God expect to find favor in his eyes when we continue to mock God?"

When did God bless this Nation? At our Founding?

I am disturbed by the belief that God has blessed America, because if indeed God blessed us at our founding because we were in compliance with his will, then I would have to accept that God had no quarrel with the laws of 18 century America.

He blessed the genocide of Native Americans?
He blessed out "peculiar institution" of slavery?
He blessed our "democracy" that excluded all but white, land-owning men?

Just asking.

Don't forget that He also must have blessed beating children so severly that we had to use animal cruelty laws to shake people out of their stupor. How about Black rights? How about might makes right?

If God blessed this country He's got some pretty low standards...

Right On, John.

As I often say:

"I believe in God, but I don't worship because he doesn't meet my statndards."

I wonder how long it will take and how much more bullshit people will eat before they turn around and tell radical religious zealots to sit on it.

It's the radical right that draws people away from God by using their fearful tactics, instead of drawing them to God by teaching love and acceptance, to try to keep them in line with how they want us to believe.
